Coventry Synagogue

Coventry Synagogue, Barras Lane

This is a late Victorian Synagogue and Rabbi’s House in Barras Lane, Spon End. The building was designed by Birmingham architect Thomas Naden in the romaneque style and was opened in September 1870. The first official words spoken as its doors opened for the first time were “Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will enter them and praise the Lord”. It closed in 2003. It is a Grade II Listed Building.

it was recently taken on by Avi Tordjman and is being slowly restored. We still regard the building as being at risk, but we have high hopes of it being restored in the longer term. You can read a news blog about a recent visit to the synagogue and see some photos here.
