The November meeting of The Arts Society Coventry will be a lecture by Raymond Warburton

Sculpture in Britain – Today and Tomorrow

Tuesday 12th November 2024

6.30pm (Doors open at 6.00pm)
Barr’s Hill School Theatre, Radford Road, Coventry CV1 4BU

British sculpture enjoyed a renaissance in the 20th century, with the likes of Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Anthony Caro and Elizabeth Frink leading the way, succeeded by Rachel Whiteread, Antony Gormley, Maggi Hambling, Anish Kapoor, Richard Long and David Nash. After considering the work of these established sculptors, Ray Warburton will review the sculptures that have adorned the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square in recent years and the new ones proposed for 2026-28. What new subjects, materials and methods of display – including digital – might be used? Who are the rising stars of British sculpture? Will we see sculptors from increasingly diverse backgrounds?

Free to members, non-members £10 at the door (students £5). For membership details, email [email protected] or visit our website theartssociety.org/coventry
