The Coventry Society is saddened to hear of the death of Colin Scott, the former Chair of the Positive Images Festival. Colin passed away on 4th December 2023 at the age of 75.

Colin studied History and English at the University of East Anglia and obtained a Diploma in Librarianship at Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College.

He was Libraries Operation Manager at the City Council and Chair of the Positive Images Festival. Colin’s contribution to the library service and his passion for the citizens of Coventry was second to none.

The development of the Positive Images Festival was trail-blazing and the city was very fortunate to have him.

CovSoc member Mary Courtney said “Colin contributed so much over the years, behind the scenes, encouraging and organising cultural events and activities. I knew him personally when I worked for the Positive Images Festival as artist in residence at Central Library. He set up the residency and organised all the things that make a difference, with warmth, humour and quiet efficiency. He lived his philosophy: ‘We try and bring the best of Coventry together’. Such a loss to the city.”

Pru Poretta, Coventry’s Lady Godiva, said “Colin was a Friend and colleague to so many communities (Hillfields Readers group) always there to listen, help if he could and  to promote other people’s diversity and their community events A man who was behind the scenes supporting grants and writing bids to make positive differences. So many positive events became realities Thank you Colin for making Positive Images such a powerful inspiring Festival and for helping us to set up our Imagination reading cafes storytelling sessions supporting us to make it happen over all these years.”

Our condolences to Colin’s family and friends.
