A planning application has been submitted to re-route the North Brook, a tributary of the River Sherboure, as it flows through the Coundon Wedge.

The stream is to be put back in its ancient river bed as part of the Sherbourne Valley Project, led by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust.

In past centuries farmers had changed the course of the stream by putting in a weir and re-routing the stream along field boundaries away from its original route.

In June 2020 members of the Coventry Society were given a tour of the Coundon Wedge by Charlotte Ridpath of Warwickshire Wildlife Trust. We were able to see the site where the weir is to be removed and the stream diverted to create a wetland area.

The Wildlife Trust has commissioned hydraulic engineers to undertake a survey, hydraulic modelling and to prepare a detailed design for the restoration of the river and flood plain. The removal of the weir will allow fish to swim upstream.

The Coventry Society has sent in a letter of support for this planning application.
