For our March meeting we have Leslely Durbin talking about tiles in Coventry. Lesley will tell us about the restoration of the Coventry Mural. The talk will cover the removal and restoration process of the unique Coventry Mural, designed by Gordon Cullen during the refurbishment of the Lower Precinct.
Lesley will also brief us on the recently published Coventry Tile Trail.
Lesley is the Conservation Advisor to the Tiles and Architectural Ceramic Society and Emeritus for the Institute of Conservation. She began working in tile conservation in 1983 and is Senior Conservator in The Jackfield Conservation Studio. She has worked in the conservation of architectural ceramics for over thirty years. She holds Emeritus status of the Institute for Conservation and has acted as a reviewer for the Getty Institute in Los Angeles. Lesley has regularly lectured on tile conservation throughout her career to a wide variety of audiences. She is one of the foremost authorities on the subject.
Lesley is author of Architectural Tiles Conservation and Restoration – the only standard industry text on conservation and restoration of tiles.
Lesley has also taken up the post of Conservation Advisor to the Tiles and Architectural Ceramics Society.
