The Coventry Society wishes Ian Harvey, the Executive Director of Civic Voice, well in his new post.Ian will be stepping down from Civic Voice in the New Year to take on a new role at the Institute of Place Management at Manchester Metropolitan University. Ian will be the new Head of the Institute of Place Management (IPM) Professional Membership Network.Ian was one of two joint founder members of Civic Voice, the umbrella organisation for the civic movement in England.Ian took the initiative to re-launch Civic Voice in 2010 after the collapse of its predecessor organisation the Civic Trust. He worked closely with the National Trust, CPRE and other organisations to set up the Civic Society Initiative, which became Civic Voice.He has led and developed Civic Voice as an effective voice for the civic movement since then.Martin Hamilton, the Chair of Civic Voice, said “Ian’s dedication, vision, and leadership have been instrumental in transforming Civic Voice from an idea into a respected national organisation that advocates for communities across the country.“His commitment to our “pride in place” mission has inspired civic societies nationwide, empowering communities to engage actively in shaping the places where they live and work. His contributions to the civic movement are immeasurable, and we are deeply grateful for his tireless commitment to making Civic Voice the influential body it has become.”The Coventry Society was the first organisation to join Civic Voice and we hosted its first national AGM and conference in October 2012, which was attended by Civic Voice President Griff Rhys Jones.Ian attended also our AGM in October 2016 and facilitated our workshops to refocus our organisation and strategy in 2018.We are grateful for Ian’s support over the past fourteen years and we wish him well for the future.Civic Voice are aiming to recruit a successor to Ian as soon as possible.
