A Birmingham manufacturer is selling miniature 3D concrete models of Coventry’s Elephant Building.
These are hand cast concrete miniatures by Spaceplay. They come gift boxed and retail for £38 including postage.
They are approximately 4.5cm high, 5.5 cm wide, and 6cm deep.
The Elephant Building was designed by Terence Gregory & Harry Noble and was completed in 1976. It closed in 2020 and its future is uncertain.
A brief Overview of the product says “The design of the Elephant Building references the coat of arms for the City of Coventry, with elephants being a popular motif around Coventry. It was built on a small area of land left after the construction of Coventry’s main leisure and swimming centre, and the ring road development. It straddles the road, and connected via walkway to the original leisure centre- providing additional leisure facilities. While the original centre was Listed in 1997, sadly the Elephant Building never has been, and with both closing in 2020- the future of the Elephant Building remains uncertain.
“The concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and minor blemishes due to air bubbles in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.”
