National Highways are consulting the public about plans to improve the A46 Eastern Bypass near Walsgrave.
The scheme is part of a government commitment to improve the A46 ‘Trans-Midlands Trade Corridor’ between the M5 and the Humber Ports.
The Walsgrave junction is the last remaining roundabout on the Eastern Bypass that is at-grade, and as such it is a pinch point for traffic. The Tollbar End junction and M6 Smart Motorway improvements have increased the pressure on the junction.
The scheme also plans to create the potential for a blue-light access to the University Hospital.
The scheme involves the removal of the roundabout with the B4082 near Coombe Abbey and the construction of a new grade separated junction to the north of Hungerly Hall Farm. A new link road connects back to Clifford Bridge Road.
Because of the bends in the road, a 50 mph speed limit will be imposed.
The consultation runs until midnight on 6th December and you can download all the documents from here. There have been a number of consultation events, and a further event is planned at Brinklow Community Hall, 43 Broad Street, Brinklow, Rugby, CV23 0LS on Thursday 30 November 2023, from 2pm – 8pm.
