The October Arts Society Coventry (TASC) lecture will be given by Helen Oakden, whose lecture early this year on Black Artists in Britain since 1960 went down very well with members. On Tuesday 24th October 2023, her topic is Marina Abramović : pioneering performance artist. Abramovićcurrently has an exhibition at the Royal Academy in London (23rd September -1st January 2024).

Abramović has a superbly powerful presence and creates a very intense relationship between the performer and the viewer, more so than is achieved in the theatre. In this lecture, Helen Oakden will look at the question of whether performance art can outlive the performance itself. It is a controversial topic and likely to be very interesting.

The lecture will be held in TASC’s splendid new venue, the theatre at Barr’s Hill School, Radford Road, CV1 4BU, at 7pm. As customary, doors will be open from 6.30pm to enable members and guests to meet over a glass of wine or soft drink.

Free to members. Non members £10 at the door (students £5). For membership details email [email protected] or visit website theartssociety.org/Coventry
