Avi Tordjman, from Coventry Synagogue, writes ….

“I am pleased to invite you and your family, friends and colleagues to join us celebrating Hanukah this year outside the Council House in Coventry on Saturday 24th December 2022 at 7pm.

“Hanukah (or Chanukah) is described as the Jewish festival of light with a Menorah light added every night from the first where we light one candle to the last when we light the eighth candle.

“The celebration itself marks the miracle of a small oil can that was used at the temple in Jerusalem to light the Menorah.

“During the destruction by the Greeks, all the oil, which was specially made for this sole reason, was spilled and destroyed.

“Later, when the Macabbim, the Hebrew resistance, re-entered the temple and found among the rubble a single can of oil, which was only good for one day. yet the light continued shining, and the oil burning, for eight days, allowing new oil to be prepared and sent.

“This year a small Menorah stowed on a trailer will be parked outside the Councll House for the celebration.
