A pilot scheme to try out modular homes in Coventry is going to be extended later this year. The scheme is being led by Citizen Housing, the Housing Association that was previously known as Whitefriars. The first pilot was for two homes in Willenhall (photo above).
The new scheme will provide 24 homes on eight former garage sites in Coventry and is being delivered by a company known as Totally Modular which has a large factory in Cradley Heath, near Dudley in the Black Country. Other partners in the scheme are the City Council and Homes England. The homes will be delivered on the back of a lorry and craned into position.
The modular buildings have a steel frame and are delivered to site 95% complete. They are A rated for energy use, meaning high energy efficiency and lower energy bills for residents, with an approximate running cost of approximately £1.48 a day for a three-bedroom, five-person home.
The multi-million-pound project will see ex-garage sites regenerated into highly efficient family homes and bungalows at: Wedon Close, Thimbler Road and Bradney Green in Canley, Coleman Street, Fletchamstead Highway and Shepherd Close in Tile Hill, Attoxhall Road in Wyken and Capmartin Road in Radford.
The development has been part funded by Homes England and Citizen will promote the bungalows to those who need to downsize their home.
The developments are due to be completed early in 2023.
Citizen have the lease of my first floor maisonette when I bought it over 20yrs ago. I have been a volunteer customer for their audit purpose and now find I will have to move to ground floor property. I would love to trial the new style bungalow. How will I manage this please
