Coventry’s ring road is getting a deep clean over the coming weeks, brightening and refreshing its concrete fascia cladding.

The work began on Monday 12 April and is expected to take around 6 weeks to fully clean the whole ring road, starting from Junction 9 and working in an anti-clockwise direction, finishing at the Canal Basin footbridge.

The team will use jet washes to blast dirt from the panels, cleaning off any dirt on all elevated sections of the ring road.

Colin Knight, Director of Transportation and Highways at Coventry City Council, said: “Love it or hate it, Coventry’s ring road is an iconic part of the city, but it is need of a thorough clean.

“Our Streetpride Team will be working hard to clean the roads themselves, whilst our teams work to polish up the fascia cladding which sits on the outside. In addition, we have our project at Swanswell Viaduct to strengthen the edge beams and replace the fascia panels, so the ring road should soon feel refreshed.

“It’s particularly important ahead of our turn as UK City of Culture to make sure the city looks its best – and this work will be part of that.”

The work will be carried out at night (8pm-6am), with various sections of the ring road needing to be closed to facilitate the works, as well as footpaths closed. Diversions will be in place and clearly signed.
